Sentinel Superpro BSOD Windows 8.1 x64 Embedded

Hi,

We are using Sentinel Superpro keys, and when using it with a new PC, the PC always crash.
Error says: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (SNTUSB64.SYS)
The crash happens when I attach the USB key to any of the USB plugs. If I remove the Sentinel driver the PC works fine, the USB plugs are working with Pen-drives, and mouse.
PC will not start correctly until the key is plugged into the USB.

I tried the Sentinel driver 7.5.7 first, then tried the 7.6.6, the error is the same. Tried with another older key, the PC crashes with that also, and tested both keys in another machine, where both work fine.

Windows 8.1 has the latest updates up to yesterday.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Viktor,

Hope you are keeping well.

You are trying to install older drivers on Windows 8.1 machine. Please install latest Sentinel Protection Installer 7.6.8 from " http://sentinelcustomer.safenet-inc.com/DownloadNotice.aspx?dID=34359738400 " and share your findings.

Also let me know, are you facing this issue on physical or virtual machine? If VM then did you enable any extra settings in VM?

If you get same BSOD error then send one email to "support@safenet-inc.com" with kernel level crash dump.

Anubhav

Hello Guys

i found a USB Dongle on which it says "SafeNet Sentinel". If i install it on Windows, the USB Name is "SafeNet USB SuperPro/UltraPro".

Is there a way to see which license is on the dongle? I mean, for which Software.

Is these Information on the dongle or only a key?

Best regards

Dorian

Hello Dorian,

Thanks for the query.

There is no way to get the license related information from the SuperPro USB dongle.

This can only be confirmed from the vendor from which the specified SuperPro key has been purchased.

Kindly contact your vendor to get detailed information.

SafeNet USB SuperPro/UltraPro problem on Windows Server 2012 VM

Hi,

I've got a customer using EXACT Dental software, part of which is protected by a SafeNet USB SuperPro/UltraPro hardware key. The Hardware key was installed by the software vendor on a workstation, which of course is not ideal, so we would like to move the key to the server instead.

The system consists of a domain with about 10 workstations (Windows 10), a physical Hyper-V server (running Server 2012 R2) and two guest VMs (a DC and a Virtual RD session host server, both running Server 2012 R2). Presently all server and workstation installations of the EXACT Dental software look to the workstation that contains the SafeNet USB SuperPro/UltraPro hardware key for their licensing verification.

Since the server we would like to move the hardware key to is virtual, we have installed a Digi AnywhereUSB/2 device. This device has been installed and tested with various USB devices and the SafeNet USB SuperPro/UltraPro hardware key appears to be recognised by the OS (see screenshots below):

Device Manager:

Hardware IDs:

However, SafeNet SAM does not appear to recognise that the hardware key is attached (all checks are green/successful when running this on the workstation):

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi Mark,

Hope you are doing good.

Regrading the issue shared by you, please be informed that Sentinel SuperPro/UltraPro is not officially tested and supported over virtual environment (Hyper-v, etc).

Please feel free to get back to us in case of any query.

Thanks,
Heena

Hi Heena,

Thank you for replying.

I realise the use of hardware keys as software protection is very old-school. To be honest, we were a little surprised to find this method still being employed for software intended to be used in modern enterprise environments. Virtualisation is of course increasingly common in enterprise environments now so it seems somewhat unwise to be still be supplying software that uses hardware key protection, particularly if those hardware keys do not support virtualisation.

Do you provide a software alternative or Sentinel SuperPro/UltraPro 'emulator' that could be used with the Exact Dental software perhaps? Or should we be looking at third party hardware key emulation?

We are considering dropping Exact Dental for something that has a licensing model more compatible with modern enterprise environments but we would prefer to stick with Exact if there's a more simple solution.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Hi Mark,

Have you tried to select the option "Enable Terminal Services" in Safenet SAM ?
By default, the dongle communication is disabled if "Terminal Services" are detected on Windows Servers.

Olivier

Hi Oliver,

Thank you very much; that's most helpful. I haven't tried that and Terminal Services is indeed installed on the server. I will try selecting the option when I'm next on-site.

If that works, and Safenet SAM indicates successful communication, should the hardware key be detected by the software or will it be necessary to enable terminal services for that too somehow?

Thanks again.

Hi Mark,

In relation to the software, for SuperPro the CodeCover provides support for Terminal Clients using the RNBOsproCheckTerminalService API. The function allows you to enable/disable application execution on terminal clients while RNBOsproFindFirstUnit, or RNBOsproFindNextUnit API is executed. An option to allow terminal service is provided in the Toolkit and this selected option is considered during runtime.

Thanks,

Heena

Thanks very much Heena.

So if I understand correctly what you're saying, the option to enable/disable application execution on terminal clients is available to the developer of the software (the software in this case being EXACT/Examine Pro) and, therefore, the software vendor should be able to assist from this point if the hardware key is not recognised (assuming it is recognised by Safenet SAM). I that correct?

Many thanks again,

Mark

Hello Pentelis,

Thanks for raising the concern.

From the shared description, we assume that you are using the latest released version of "Sentinel System Drivers" v7.5.4.

Please correct if the above observation is not correct.

Kindly confirm a few details to check the cause behind the issue :

1- Confirm if the key is visible under system information ( available under location /applications/utilities/)
2- Check if the issue pesists on all the ports.
3- Check if the issue persists with any other mac machine or any other version before "El Captain".

Looking forward for the response.

Best regards,
Parth

SuperPro driver not loading on Windows 10

I have a client trying to run our SuperPro protected software under Windows 10. The Sentinel System Driver (Version 7.5.8.0) installation runs without error. When the client tries to run our software or the Field Exchange Utility they receive an E0003 Key not found error.

In their Device Manager the key shows up correctly under USB Controllers as "Safenet USB SuperPro/UltraPro". The driver properties shows displays this status:

Device status

The driver events tab shows that the device did not start.

I had them run the Sentinel Advanced Medic with these results:

The medic log starts with:

Any idea why the driver does not appear to be starting properly?
